Far Rockaway starts at the Nassau County line and extends west to Beach 32nd Street.
Edgemere is the largest neighborhood in Far Rockaway.
Originally called New Venice, Edgemere -home of rapper IG Off- is now considered
as one of the city’s most crime-ridden housing complexes.
Once a beachfront neighborhood thriving with inexpensive summer hotels and bungalows, amusements and boardwalk concessions, massive urban renewal projects in the 1960s precipitated the demolition of the vast majority of these resorts with nothing to replace them, leaving the area largely a wasteland for decades.
Only in the 1990s was there any substantial sign of reversing this trend.
