June 24, 1991: Rude Boy Dead in Flatbush

Scene for the filming of numerous music videos, meeting place, hub for Jamaican music,
the Brooklyn-based Super Power Records was always a popular hangour spot for reggae artists, producers, promoters and industry personalities.

Plagued by financial problems over the years, Super Power lost a court battle
on july ’08 with their landlord regarding long-outstanding rent payments.

Located on Church Avenue between Utica Avenue and E 49th Street in Flatbush, the record store was probably most infamous for being the scene of a shooting incident between deejays Super Cat and Glen Augustus Holness, otherwise known by his stage name Nitty Gritty,
on June 24, 1991.

Many allege that the bloody episode saw Super Cat being quicker on the draw,
and Nitty Gritty ending up dead on the floor.

This version was never proven and Super Cat was acquitted of all charges
